Alaska & beyond - continued 5/21- 6/24

Las Vegas to Idaho

The flight from Honolulu to Las Vegas was uneventful -- other than it had been 106 in Las Vegas that day.  It was still 100 when I landed.   The Roadtrek was ready to travel when the taxi dropped me at Gerke's RV Storage.  It was set for the trip north -- a new spare tire mounted on the front was obvious, a CB radio has been installed, and the rear door had been "tweaked" to stop dust from pouring in.  Tweaked is the wrong word -- the rear door was almost rebuilt to keep it straight.

granddaughter & 'Dancer'Loading my bags, I set off for Silverton to spend the night.  And the next morning I headed up to Idaho.

My granddaughter had a horse show Saturday and I wanted to see her perform.  She is very good with her horse "Dancer."

drandsonGrandson is now into hockey.  And looks like a budding Wayne Gretsky.

Granddaughter and I took off Sunday morning, June 24th, to travel up to Seattle.  There, I'll put her on a plane back to Boise, where her dad will pick her up.

granddaughter and FrankWe met my brother Frank in Boise for lunch.  He gave me a lot of suggestions about where to go, what to see, and where to stay during my trip to Alaska.

I had a CB radio installed in the Roadtrek for the trip north.  My granddauter's job on this trip is to learn how to operate it -- and then teach me how.  She scanned the channels, listening for someone, anyone, talking.  Finally, in desperation she keyed the mike, and in her sweet, soft voice said "Hello."

Also immediately a big, booming, bass voice replied, "HELLO." Then, after a moments pause, "Guess she's not going to talk any more."

She almost jumped out of her seat, and turned beet red.  Then we both had to laugh.

The rest of the day she listened to a number of conversations, learning how to tune and handle the CB, but hasn't tried speaking again -- maybe tomorrow.
