then further on north
I left the KOA RV camp as soon as the sun came up. Heading
into the west, to the entrance to Banff National Park. The sun, shining
under the clouds, highlighted the mountains. Still, in the center there
was a heavy cloud bank -- I was in for a stormy drive.
Turned north, up the Icefields Parkway. Just like the
route I took through the west, the aspens were golden here. All along
the base of one mountain, the golden aspens seemed to sit just above the
green timber, like a belt. Above was bare rock. Without sun,
the picture just doesn't do it justice, doesn't bring out the brilliant
shimmering gold..
Further
along the Parkway I met a mountain goat crossing a deep ravine on a bridge
-- she was nice enough to let me share it with her.
And I was right, it rained all the way to Prince George. Sometimes a drizzle, sometime a down pour. The weather report is for more rain for the next couple of days.
The drive from just beyond Jasper all the way to Prince George followed the Fraser River. I wonder just how far up the Fraser the salmon go.
Stopped in Prince George to spend the night.
Thursday,
woke to a sunny day. Let's hope it stays that way.
The drive north-west to Telkwa was through rolling hills, peppered with gold and gold scattered along the side of the road.
This area will be my home for the next week. Now, we'll see how the fishing really goes.
