Telkwa BC
to Las Vegas, NV
After breakfast , Saturday the 6th, I said goodbye to everyone one at Frontier Farwest and started on the 2,000 mile run to Las Vegas.
The first night I made it to Cache Creek BC, and crashed for the night.
Woke early, before the sun was up, and took the route to Kamloops, then down to Kelowna, to Osoyoos and across to Grand Forks. I wanted to go through Spokane, WA, so crossed the border at Cascade. I made it to Riggins, Idaho by the time it got dark. Didn't stop to fish for steelhead this time.
Up early, and made it to Boise, Idaho. Mainly wanted to
stop there and see my brother Frank.
Early the next morning I headed south. I'd planned to
stop at Ely, Nevada. There was a light dusting of snow on the mountains,
fall had come to the high desert country, 6,000 feet high. The weather
report was for a low of 15 degrees F and I hadn't "winterized" my RT, so
pushed on to Las Vegas and it's mild climate this time of year. The
sun was setting when I got there.
After a day or so, to take care of loose ends, I called Kristen, as I'd promised, to see if she was available for dinner some evening. Picked her up at her dorm at UNLV. She is always good company, and its always fun to catch up on her life.
For a treat, we had dinner at the Veniacian. We were unable to find where to park the RT, its eight and a half foot height puts limits on parking. Finally said to heck with it -- used valet parking.
Dinner there was very good, and afterward we strolled through the shops along the gondola route. It really has the total illusion that you are walking the streets of Venice in the evening.
After going outside and walking on the strip a bit, decided to call it an evening and went to get the RT from valet parking. We sat and waited for it to show up -- and waited , and waited, and waited -- half an hour later the valet came over and told us they had, at last, located the RT, and he would go get it. Fifteen minutes later it finally came around the corner -- 45 minutes to retrieve a vehicle? They really need to work on their system.
Monday, 10/15, I parked the RT in storage -- now it's Dales, to repair the
"Moose Mangle" while I'm home. Left for the airport. The trip
home to Honolulu was uneventful, albeit a bit slow due to the additional,
but welcome, security checks. It was good to get home, my Alaska trip
